The Art of the Brick

Background

The Art of the Brick is a book by Nathan Sawaya, an artist that specializes in lego sculptures. As part of an assignment for Typography 2, I re-designed his book showcasing his lego masterpieces into a half letter booklet, spiral bound with a bright blue plastic coil to pick up the plasticity and color of a lego brick.

This was my first big, solo editorial undertaking. I learned a lot about file organization, setting up files for print and working with printers, and especially how to take a print booklet from ideation to execution. The process started with a passion for legos and a want to return to childhood, and after I stumbled on Nathan Sawaya's work, I knew I wanted to capture his playfulness through typography.
